چکیده

We study in detail the application of renormalisation theory to models of cluster aggregation and fragmentation of relevance to nucleation and growth processes. We investigate the Becker-Döring equations, originally formulated to describe and analyse non-equilibrium phase transitions, and more recently generalised to describe a wide range of physicochemical problems. In the present paper we analyse how the systematic coarse-graining renormalisation of the Becker-Döring system of equations affects the aggregation and fragmentation rate coefficients. We consider the case of power-law size-dependent cluster rate coefficients which we show lead to only three classes of system that require analysis: coagulationdominated systems, fragmentation-dominated systems and those where coagulation and fragmentation are exactly balanced. We analyse the late-time asymptotics associated with each class. PACS: 64.60.-i General studies of phase transitions 64.60.Ht Dynamic critical phenomena 82.20.-w Chemical kinetics

Trend to Equilibrium for the Becker-döring Equations: an Analogue of Cercignani’s Conjecture

We investigate the rate of convergence to equilibrium for subcritical solutions to the Becker-Döring equations with physically relevant coagulation and fragmentation coefficients and mild assumptions on the given initial data. Using a discrete version of the log-Sobolev inequality with weights we show that in the case where the coagulation coefficient grows linearly and the detailed balance coe...

Cluster renormalization in the Becker-Döring equations

We apply ideas from renormalization theory to models of cluster formation in nucleation and growth processes. We study a simple case of the Becker-Döring system of equations and show how a novel coarsegraining procedure applied to the cluster aggregation space affects the coagulation and fragmentation rate coefficients. A dynamical renormalization structure is found to underlie the Becker-Dörin...

Polynomial decay to equilibrium for the Becker-Döring equations

This paper studies rates of decay to equilibrium for the Becker-Döring equations with subcritical initial data. In particular, polynomial rates of decay are established when initial perturbations of equilibrium have polynomial moments. This is proved by using new dissipation estimates in polynomially weighted ` spaces, operator decomposition techniques from kinetic theory, and interpolation est...
